Budapest has made an agreement on screening tests with a private laboratory

In his Facebook post, Mayor Gergely Karácsony talked about Budapest’s efforts to provide health and social care workers with the opportunity for screening tests for the coronavirus infection:

“It is devastating to read that in Italy already more than 6000 healthcare workers have been infected with COVID-19. Yesterday, Mayor Imre László reported that two general practitioners have been infected in Újbuda as well.

The World Health Organization and the Hungarian Chamber of Doctors both strongly recommend extensive testing to fight the epidemic, especially for those on the frontline. Thus, Budapest is working on establishing the necessary preconditions to regularly test healthcare workers and those who care for the elderly and the socially disadvantaged.

To achieve that, three things are required: testing tools, lab capacity, and of course financial support. My colleagues yesterday agreed with a private laboratory to establish the necessary conditions for screening. If it is up to us, from next week on we will protect the heroes of Budapest, who shield us from the epidemic by testing them.”
